How to Estimate Affiliate Commission

Use eligible sales and reversal figures from the same program, currency, and reporting period.

1

Enter gross sales that qualify for commission.

Start with program-defined eligibility

Do not enter all referred revenue unless the affiliate agreement treats it as eligible commissionable sales.

What the Commission Estimate Includes

The calculator subtracts entered reversals before applying one flat percentage rate. It then adds one fixed bonus and compares total commission with net eligible sales. It does not model tiered rates, category-specific rates, caps, minimum thresholds, multi-touch attribution, or delayed validation.

Affiliate Payout Examples

Sales with reversals and bonus

Eligible sales and program terms

grossEligibleSales:10000
reversedSales:1000
commissionRate:8
fixedBonus:50

Estimated commission

770 total commission

Net eligible sales are 9,000. Percentage commission is 720, and the 50 bonus produces an effective rate of about 8.56%.

Bonus without eligible sales

Eligible sales and program terms

grossEligibleSales:0
reversedSales:0
commissionRate:20
fixedBonus:25

Estimated commission

25 total commission

The percentage component is zero. Effective rate is undefined because net eligible sales are zero.

Reconcile against statements

Compare the estimate with the network statement and investigate differences in eligibility, reversals, tiers, or attribution.

Affiliate Commission Formulas

The payout arithmetic is a contract-input model. Program terms determine which sales, reversals, rates, and bonuses belong in the calculation.

Formula

net eligible sales = gross eligible sales − reversed sales

Net eligible sales

net eligible sales = gross eligible sales − reversed sales

Total commission

commission = net eligible sales × rate ÷ 100 + fixed bonus

Effective commission rate

effective rate = total commission ÷ net eligible sales × 100

Scientific Background

The model is deterministic and currency-neutral. It does not infer legal disclosure requirements; in the United States, the FTC says material affiliate relationships should be disclosed clearly and conspicuously.
