Home Solar Savings and Payback Calculator
Subtracts incentives from system cost, estimates annual savings from kWh production and electricity rate minus maintenance, then computes simple payback and analysis-horizon net savings.
Limitation: Educational estimate only.
How to Estimate Solar Savings
Enter known or assumed system economics in one currency.
Choose a display currency; no conversion occurs.
Incentives cannot exceed system cost
If a credit is larger than the entered system cost, reduce incentives or raise system cost so the net cost stays non-negative.
What Solar Savings Mean Here
Annual savings multiply production by your rate and subtract maintenance. Simple payback divides net system cost by annual savings when savings are positive. The analysis total assumes constant annual savings with no rate inflation, panel degradation, or financing.
Solar Savings Examples
Twenty-five-year horizon
Entered system assumptions
Savings and payback
Net cost = 20,000 − 5,000; annual savings = 10,000 × 0.2 − 100; payback = 15,000 ÷ 1,900.
Shorter horizon stress test
Entered system assumptions
Savings and payback
Annual savings = 750 − 50 = 700; 8,000 ÷ 700 ≈ 11.43; 700 × 10 − 8,000 = −1,000.
Compare multiple rates
Re-run with a lower electricity rate to see how sensitive payback is before treating one scenario as decisive.

Scientific Background
Assumptions: constant production value, constant maintenance, and whole-number analysis years. Limitations: net metering, time-of-use rates, battery storage, financing, and panel degradation can change real outcomes.
