How to Use the GPA Calculator
Choose your grading scale, add courses with credits and grades (letter or %), and optionally include current cumulative GPA and completed credits to update your CGPA. For the 5.0 scale, you can apply Honors/AP/IB weighting; values cap at the scale maximum.
Select your grading scale (4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0 weighted, or Percentage)
💡 Pro Tip
Use consistent credit values and confirm your school's weighting rules. Some cap A+ at the scale maximum even with weighting.
What the GPA Calculator Computes
The calculator computes semester GPA (or average %) and, if provided, updates cumulative GPA using prior GPA and credits. It supports letter-based scales (4.0/4.3/4.5), weighted 5.0 with Honors/AP/IB adders capped at 5.0, and percentage-based averaging. You’ll also see an interpretation band matched to the chosen scale.
Example Calculations
Standard 4.0 Scale (Semester GPA)
Input Values
Result
Semester GPA = (4.0×4 + 3.3×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 11 = 3.44
Weighted 5.0 Scale with AP
Input Values
Result
Points (capped at 5.0): AP A→5.0, Honors A-→4.2, B→3.0. GPA = (5.0×4 + 4.2×3 + 3.0×3) ÷ 10 = 4.47
Percentage Scale (Average % + Cumulative)
Input Values
Result
Weighted average: (92×4 + 88×2) ÷ 6 = 90.67 for the term; cumulative % recomputed versus prior if provided.

Core formulas for GPA and cumulative GPA, plus weighted adjustments for advanced courses.
Formula
Semester GPA
GPA = Σ (Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits
Cumulative GPA
CGPA = (Prev GPA × Prev Credits + Current Points) ÷ (Prev Credits + Current Credits)
Weighted Adjustment (5.0)
Weighted Points = min(Base Points + Weight Bonus, 5.0)
Scientific Background
GPA systems vary across institutions. The 4.0 scale is common in the U.S., while some use 4.3/4.5, and weighted 5.0 recognizes rigor in AP/IB/Honors courses. Percentage systems calculate arithmetic means; some schools convert % to 4.x scales using policy tables.
