Childcare sticker shock usually comes from mixing weekly tuition with one-time fees. Split the stack, then compare options with the same weeks-per-year assumption.
Start with the rate period
Centers may quote daily or weekly tuition; nannies quote hourly wages; sitters quote evenings. Convert everything to an annual figure before you compare.
Closures and PTO
If a center closes for holidays, lower weeks per year. If a nanny is paid for vacation weeks, keep those weeks in the wage total.
